Ferret MAC OS X Downloads
Ferret v7.4.3
Executable files
Please see notes on the GitHub release pages about the versions of OSX that have been tested.
Download the appropriate file from the GitHub page, https://github.com/NOAA-PMEL/Ferret/releases. There is just one tar file containing executables and environment files. It is a Gzipped files using Unix "gzip"command. Untar it, and run the Finstall script in the bin/ directory, choosing option 2.
Installation Instructions
Ferret on the MAC needs X11 support for X-Windows for display. We have found that XQuartz for X-Windows (free software) works well.
See: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201341 and https://www.xquartz.org/ for more information.
Dataset file
Also download Ferret Datasets. The datasets used for creating land outlines and masks, and also used by example and tutorial scripts. (For Ferret v7.1, the datasets that are used by "go land" and "go land_detail" to draw land boundaries, national borders, rivers, and so forth on maps were updated.) Some of the data files within this collection are not absolutely required for Ferret installation. See the Installation and update guide for guidance.
Source Code
If you would like to build Ferret yourself, please see the link on the GitHub page for the source code.
