Ferret v6.1

Note: We have had reports the Ferret RedHat built with gcc/g77 has successfully been installed on SuSe 8.x systems, and also on Fedora Core 3 (FC3). You might try downloading the RedHat 32-bit executables first, and come back to the statically-linked executable if you run into incompatibilities with libraries.

Installation Instructions

• Installation and update guide Please skip the information about external functions shared object files. This capability does not work with a statically-linked executable.

Environment and Executable files

These are files that are required for Ferret installation (Compressed files using Unix "compress" command)

• Ferret Executables
• Ferret Environment files
  • The external functions capability is not available with the statically-linked executable. The shared object .so files for external functions are not included in the distribution. See the Installation and update guide for a note about this.
• Ferret Datasets
  • Some of the data files within this collection are not absolutely required for Ferret installation. See the Installation and update guide for guidance.

For Users of other Linux flavors, such as Debian or SuSE, if you are still having trouble running the RedHat version of Ferret, please email us at Ferret developers for the source code if you are interested in attempting to build Ferret.
