Ferret

NOTE: Windows XP requires a more recent version of Cygwin than is bundled into the V5.53 Ferret for win32. For now, XP users must continue to use v5.51 of Ferret. As soon as a updated cygwin environment is installed, and Ferret and it's dependent libraries are ported, we will officially release a newer version of Ferret for windows XP. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Note:

In order to run Ferret on win32 platforms, it is necessary to have an X Window emulation program installed. The following win32 X Window servers are known to work with Ferret. This does not imply any kind of endorsement for the software listed below, but is a starting place to find an X emulation package.

• MicroImages -- very low price and reportedly quite adequate

• X-Deep/32 Server software, free and reported to be adequate for Ferret use. http://www.pexus.com/Download/download.html
  
  
• Cygwin --free cygwin X-server software is reported to run Ferret in (at least) Windows 2000 and XP. A user's tip is that you must initialize startx.
