In Ferret, special symbols are accessed using Symbol fonts. These are given via the symbol number, i.e., @MA01 plots the first symbol in MATH and @MA12 will plot the twelfth symbol. Font changes (of the form @XX) can be imbedded in any label string (e.g., XLAB, YLAB, PLOT commands). @font selects "font" as the character or symbol font to be used, where the font abbreviations are listed below.
These Symbol fonts are only for embedding in text labels, not for use on PLOT/VS plots. Symbols for scatter plots are defined by the plot markers or by PyFerret symbol files.
In PyFerret, special symbols may be drawn by issuing a SET TEXT/FONT= command to choose a font which contains the desired alphabet or symbols, or by use of embedded symbols using html-style encoding. Or, these sets of symbols accessed by @XX are available in PyFerret if you use the Hershey Font. Issue the command CANCEL TEXT to access the Hershey font.
